IAQ Services

EAS specializes in the measurement of low level organic compounds in indoor air quality.

  • These methods can be used to determine low level exposure of office workers and homeowners
  • The low level voc methods can also be used for odor studies.

Indoor Air Quality Services

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) has become an important issue in both the home environment and in the business/workplace environment. EPA has recognized that most people spend a substantial amount of their time indoors and are exposed to a variety of chemicals that can have substantial short and long term health effects.  EAS has been involved in Indoor Air Quality testing since 1985, and has developed a modified EPA TO-15, IP-1A, and TO-17 target compound list that contains about 100 compounds that are commonly found in indoor air samples.  These compounds help identify fragrances, cleaning products, mold VOC's, cosmetics, hydrocarbon solvents, chlorinated solvents, volatile pesticides, refrigerants, and others.

Commercial Buildings are tested using the same methods as residences, but the expected levels of volatile organic compounds will generally be higher then a residence.  There may also be additional specific chemicals used in the buildings that need to be checked.

LEED Testing Services

The LEED Program was created by the U.S. Green Building Council to encourage the construction of Green buildings. The LEED program offers a certification for buildings that meet certain standards.  One of these standards is the levels of volatile organic compounds (VOC's) present in the building.  EAS provides the analytical services to measure he recommended VOC compounds for this program.  The VOC's include Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC), 4-PCH (from carpets), Formaldehyde.  A portable meter is recommended for the carbon monoxide and and Particulate Matter (PM10).

CalGreen Testing Services

California has adopted a Green Building Standrds Code.  Section 5.504.2.2.2 of the code establishes Meximum levels of contamination for a serie of compounds (see table).  The compounds are the same as the LEED program, but the concentrations of some compounds are different. EAS provides the analytical services to measure he recommended compounds for this program.  The VOC's include Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC), 4-PCH (from carpets), and Formaldehyde.  A portable meter is recommended for the carbon monoxide and Particulate Matter (PM10).
